Here

I have a sense of the place that I am. The sense goes beyond just the physical realization of place . . . also involving feelings about the place. Disorientation is traumatic and stressful; we lose our here. No matter where I am, I am "here," and there is always only one here for me.

There

Every thing is some place.. And where I am not, is "there." There are an infinite number of theres for everyone. We see "there" relative to our "here". Sometimes, we get there confused for others, thinking of their location as here when it’s there.

UniStatsian, UniStatsian Male

A person living in the United States. Formerly known, in more isolated and parochial times, as "American.".

Now

Along with here, the defining characteristic of each individual’s existence. But whereas here stays the same, and the same, and the same, unless we take an action, now changes continuously. We have control, or substantial control, over here; but no control at all over now. Now is something that is infinitely transitory, but always with us.

Now Riddle

When someone asks, "What are you doing now?" What are you doing? Answer: thinking about what you’re doing.

Later

There are an infinite number of laters, all waiting to become nows, and then thens. Later is, of course, relative to now, or some other point in time; later is nothing by itself. Later is usually the point in time that things get done and things happen. When you communicate, everyone always receives your message later. You really cannot accomplish anything in the now, because by the time it’s done, it’s later. And remember, "Today was tomorrow, yesterday."

Later Question 1

How long do you mind waiting for or anticipating something?

Later Question 2

How many times can you hear "Later" before you start to feel stress about it?

Out

The characteristic of "outness" indicates perceptual and conceptual recognition of boundaries, something innate in all creatures. Even a plant moves toward light. We understand when we or another creature is "outside" a container of some sort. These recognitions of physical relationships are innate bases of intellectualization and communication.

In

When we have limited vision or when our movements are restricted we say we are "in" or "inside". But what is "inside", really? If we put something "inside" the box, is it within the makeup of the walls of the box? Or is it within the space contained within the confines of the box?

In and Out Question

What is everything that you are inside of at this time? Can you ever really be "outside everything"?

Me, Myself, I, Mine

The sense of self is the basis for all perception and opinion. We cannot necessarily define the self clearly (cogito ergo sum), but we can analyze some of the implications of the self. We can understand that we see things differently, that we agree and disagree with others (other selves), that there are differences among us. Well, I am me! And we each of us has a sense of those things that makes me, my stuff, my own body, and my own point(s) of view(/views).

Me Question 1

Do you see things from the other person’s point of view? How do you know this?

Me Question 2

What boundaries do you have that are inviolate, that you do not want others to cross?

You, Yourself, Your

There is something that allows us to (a) recognize that which is not us and to (b) package that which we recognize as not us into individual units of you. We can discern the boundaries of the individual, and understand the scope of influence that individual has in terms of physical impact, force of opinion, expression, and influence on other "you units." We can sense what experiences the other unit - nee "you" I experiencing, relative to "me".

Time

Sometimes called the one-directional dimension, time is current that flows us along. We are so cognizant of our inability to affect our movement in time that we carry a measurement of it with us or post it on the wall for common benchmarking.

Place

Place dimensions are affect-able by us, so we do not measure them with precision. Imagine carrying a measuring stick with us all the time, or stating "I’m 73 inches away from you right now"(!) We don’t do this because if the place or relative place is not suitable, we can change it. {Are we there yet? After all!} It is not possible to affect the time measurement, but we identify it to each other all the "time" {I’ll meet you at 6 p.m.}
